Settlement Reached in Alaska

A settlement in the suit filed by the state of Alaska against Eli Lilly and Company has reportedly been settled.
The suit was filed regarding the use of the drug Zyprexa by Alaska’s Medicaid program.
Lawsuit Claims Patients Misinformed
The suit, which was filed in March 2006, accused the state and healthcare providers of inadequately warning consumers about the side effects linked to the medication.
According to reports, Lily and the state settled the case jointly for $15 million.
Drug Company Pays
Eli Lilly has also been asked to pay for the increased costs of the medication that were caused because patients were suffering from side effects.
The drug manufacturer will also be expected to pay civil penalties under the Alaska Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Act (UTPCPA).
